Till

Till Eulenspiegel, alternatively Dil Ulenspiegel or Dyl Ulenspegel, is reputed to have been a wandering rogue of the 14th century. In 1510, a chapbook that compiled his stories  was published in Middle Low German. Its title:

A diverting read of Dyl Ulenspiegel, born in the land of Brunswick, how he spent his life.

It quickly became a commercial success and was translated into several languages. The hero is characterized by an anarchic nonconformism. He plays the fool and excessively takes everybody in his surroundings at their word, only then to prankishly disabuse them of their preposterous beliefs.

The 15th story of Till Eulenspiegel is set in Giebichenstein Castle.
